SUMMARY:Nimiipuu Perspectives Speaker Series II: Language\, Song\, and Place
DESCRIPTION:WSU Pullman is located on the homelands of the Nimíipuu (Nez Perce) Tribe and Palus people. The Nimíipuu maintain legal rights and moral responsibilities to engage and protect this land. Please join us for the second of three meetings\, featuring respected members of the Nez Perce Tribe\, sharing their perspectives on topics relating to their homeland\, history\, traditional practices\, and treaty rights. It is especially important that we hear such perspectives\, as a Land Grant University that has benefitted from the appropriation of Indigenous lands (see the High County News articles on “Land Grab Universities”) \nAt this meeting\, we will hear from Harry Slickpoo\, Jr. and Andre Picard\, Jr. Mr. Slickpoo will talk about nimipuutimt\, the Nez Perce language\, and how it shapes relationships and conveys traditional knowledge about this landscape. Mr. Picard will complement the conversation by discussing Nez Perce song\, stories\, and cultural practices that maintain those relationships and knowledge. \n Important Note: Both internal and external WSU meeting attendees must be signed into Zoom to join the meeting. Join Zoom Meeting from PC\, Mac\, Linux\, iOS\, or Android: https://wsu.zoom.us/j/99202474001?pwd=eU9FWXMyQU5WQVhvRzV5dlpteUhxdz09 \nFor more information\, contact Dr. Ken Lokensgard.

SUMMARY:Nimíipuu Perspectives III: A Conversation on Place\, Practice\, and Knowledge
DESCRIPTION:WSU Pullman is located on the homelands of the Nimíipuu (Nez Perce) Tribe and Palus people. The Nimíipuu maintain legal rights and moral responsibilities to engage and protect this land. Please join us for the last of three meetings\, featuring respected members of the Nez Perce Tribe\, sharing their perspectives on topics relating to their homeland\, history\, traditional practices\, and treaty rights. It is especially important that we hear such perspectives\, as a Land Grant University that has benefitted from the appropriation of Indigenous lands (see the High County News articles on “Land Grab Universities”) \nAt this final meeting\, our four previous speakers will return as a panel and converse with the Affiliates and Associates of the Center for Native American Research & Collaboration and other guests. The four speakers are Bill Picard\, Otis Halfmoon\, Harry Slickpoo\, Jr.\, and Andre Picard\, Jr. If you have questions about the land upon which your institution sits\, the people who have developed relationships with that land since time immemorial\, and how academia can be more respectful of those legal and moral relationships\, this will be a great time to ask them. \nJoin Zoom Meeting from PC\, Mac\, Linux\, iOS\, or Android: https://wsu.zoom.us/j/94888455535?pwd=UXlmVkZ0ZWZaVUsrTFRQRFlYNUxZUT09 \nFor more information\, contact Ken Lokensgard at kenneth.lokensgard@wsu.edu.

SUMMARY:Communicating Health in an Era of Mistrust
DESCRIPTION:The November 9th panel discussion\, “Communicating Health in an Era of Mistrust\,” focuses on culturally meaningful communication to promote vaccination\, and will serve as a catalyst to engage the community in discussions and dialogues surrounding diversity\, equity\, inclusion\, race\, and social justice issues. \nLaunched in October 2020\, the “Power of Voice” speaker series by the Edward R. Murrow College Of Communication celebrates how we express our unique style\, personality\, experience\, and opinion by using our voices. At their worst\, our voices disseminate misinformation\, disinformation\, and hate. At their best\, we can use our voices to break down systemic barriers and open doors that may have otherwise remained locked.
