Professional Interests
Dan works as an editor and science writer at Washington State University in the Office of Native American Programs and the Institute for Research and Education to Advance Community Health. He supports program development for Native American students, Indigenous faculty, and Tribal/community-based participatory research-focused faculty and their community partners. He is also dedicated to early career investigator training and prioritizes individuals from backgrounds that are underrepresented in academia. With 15 years of experience serving in research advancement roles for large universities, Dan has worked with university leadership to pursue strategic research initiatives, including organizational partnerships, cluster hires, individual leadership and faculty recruits, and funding opportunities. He has also partnered with investigators to help them secure extramural funding for research centers and projects, translational research, investigator training programs, research experiences for K-12 students, undergraduate students and teachers, individual fellowships, and infrastructure development. Dan has a multidisciplinary background in basic science, environmental health, and applied public policy for marine and coastal areas. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his daughters, reading, attending concerts, running, dog training and upland bird hunting.
